The environmental permit has been submitted for Tuinkwartier on Strandeiland. A step closer to the construction of homes, a neighborhood hub, a supermarket and a health center on the newest part of Amsterdam in the IJmeer. The plan will be carried out almost entirely in timber construction and biobased materials.

Tuinkwartier consists of four parts, each with its own character: Makershaven, De Stad, Het Oog and De Duinen. Each building block, the Makersblok, the Watertuin and the Duintuin, has its own identity.

The industrial, maritime influences of Makershaven give the neighborhood an edge with robust residential blocks, contemporary housing forms and attractive hospitality venues. In De Stad lies a lively, active urban neighborhood with shops, hospitality and the neighborhood hub. Next to it is Het Oog, a serene environment with water where biodiversity is central. De Duinen is characterized by sightlines to the park and a dune landscape for relaxing, walking and playing. Tuinkwartier thus makes use of the best qualities of the location.

The neighborhood offers 48 housing types and brings people together with an active plinth featuring shops, workspaces and pavilions where residents meet. Strandeiland Tuinkwartier will become a neighborhood for families of all kinds.

LEVS designed Tuinkwartier together with MEESVISSER, BETA and DELVA.
