Ringers

Around the old Ringers cocoa and chocolate factory on the edge of Alkmaar city centre, history is palpable and the future is developing. Once the cherry chocolates rolled off the conveyor belt here, the area is now being transformed into an inner-city living environment. Commissioned by BPD, LEVS is designing 177 flats within two residential towers here. At this prominent spot, we are working on the new face of Alkmaar, linking the small scale of the old city centre on the other side of the water with the now larger ambitions of the new Ringerskwartier.

Transformation around the cocoa factory

An exciting, urban development is underway around the industrial heritage of the Ringers cocoa and chocolate factory in Alkmaar. This project comprises three residential towers, a lower residential building, a foodhall, a pavilion and promenade along the canal and a landscape park connecting the various subareas. BPD commissioned us to design the two tall towers at the corners. With clear coherence but each with its own atmosphere and appearance, like identical twins.

Twin towers on the waterfront

The Bonbon, The Cocoa and The Range are the three residential towers earmarked for sale. De Bonbon is elegant and refined, with a classic look that suits both the city centre and the Ringers Factory. The Cocoa is its quirky little brother, with rounded corners and commercial spaces in the plinth. The Fan is sturdy and robust, almost monumental, and stands firmly at a crossroads where three roads converge. Each building has its own character, one more robust and industrial, with a rough red brick and rugged crown. The other more refined, chic, with white and yellow gleaming bricks and a sleek ‘cap’. Together, they form a harmonious unit uniting Alkmaar's historical and modern elements.

Coming home along promenade and park

DELVA Landscape Architecture & Urbanism's landscape design plays a crucial role in connecting the different subareas. A promenade along the canal and a landscape park create a green and inviting public space. These elements promote biodiversity and provide space for recreation and relaxation. DELVA's design creates a harmonious transition between buildings and nature, allowing residents to enjoy urban and green amenities in their immediate vicinity.

Comfortable and connected living

The focus in designing the homes is on light, views and smart embedding in the urban environment. In De Bonbon, the homes have beautiful views of the Old Town and the outdoor spaces are optimally oriented. De Cacao offers a varied palette of housing types, ensuring a diverse audience. The Range offers spacious homes with plenty of privacy and private balconies. The above-ground car park connects the complexes and provides a green, soundproofed inner area that contributes to the quality of living. With a focus on sustainability and future adaptability, Ringers offers a comfortable and connected living environment in the heart of Alkmaar.
