Since 2022, Marianne Loof, founding partner at LEVS, has served as Spoorbouwmeester, chief architectural and master planning advisor to the Dutch railway sector. As of January 1, 2026, she will hand over this role to Daan Zandbelt.

Over the past four years, Marianne has advocated for Smart Densification and the design research Paris Proof Stations. She linked sustainable mobility and future-proof station areas to densification around public transport hubs, stringent CO₂ budgets, high quality of life, inclusivity, and sufficient space for future developments.

During the farewell event on November 20, various thinkers and doers from the railway sector spoke. In her farewell lecture, Marianne made a case for acting in the here and now – something that requires leadership from everyone in their own role.

The Spoorbouwmeester’s Office is the independent advisory body for ProRail and NS in the field of spatial quality and design of stations, railways, and railway environments, and manages the Railway Image as the overarching design policy of the railway sector.
