On the Spuiboulevard in Dordrecht, the new project Frontier will soon arise: a new residential building with 175 apartments, precisely at the transition between the 19th-century city edge and the historic center. With a powerful, compact appearance, Frontier marks a step between two times – firmly anchored in history while simultaneously looking towards the future.
The design draws on the atmosphere and materialization of the classic 'Dordtse facade'. Variation in color and rhythm of the facades aligns with the rich architecture of the inner city, while plinths with cozy front gardens and light, open entrances add an inviting character to the new neighbourhood. This way, the place maintains a typical Dordrecht identity, but in a contemporary translation.
In addition to the high-quality architectural appearance, livability is central to this project. The homes are organized around a collective inner garden, designed by OKRA, where biodiversity and interaction go hand in hand. The surrounding area also contributes to the tranquility and neighbourhood feeling: a car-free route connects the Spuiboulevard with the adjacent area, and residents will soon overlook the Oude Maas.
Frontier is a development by VORM, with LEVS as the architect and OKRA as the landscape architect. Together, we are working on a building that not only adds homes but also writes a new chapter in the Dordrecht city story.
