Surya Steijlen

Surya Steijlen joined LEVS in 2014 as a senior architect and from 2018 as an associate partner. In 2021 he became partner. After graduating from the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, he worked from 2003 as an architect at Claus en Kaan architects and K2, where he gained experience with complex stacked urban projects. He is passionate about designing and creating living environments that people can identify with. His specialty is perfecting the quality of the execution.

As a BIM expert, Surya leads the development of technological innovations and collaborations within the office and the wider building sector. For example as co-developer at the BNA of the ILS O&E. He knows better than anyone else the added value of integral design, and what the possibilities will be in the near future.

His greatest strength lies in maintaining oversight within complex assignments and in connecting design with technical detailing. By thinking one step further than the rest, he manages to implement the larger vision in a design that is actually feasible with new techniques, processes and construction methods. On the Cruquius island in Amsterdam East, directly next to the LEVS office, he led project De Binnenbocht, fully developed in BIM and built up to fifteen floors without scaffolding.

Surya is a member of the BNA member's council between 2022 and 2025.
