At the Hogekwartier area at plot 2, this housing ensemble with 120 private, social rental, care and single-family dwellings is under construction. The fifty-meter landmark tower will soon designate the new eastern city entrance. Then, the volume will descend from sixteen to nine and six layers to the single-family homes that make a visual connection with the adjacent post-war residential area on the city side. Just like the care homes on the south side, they will be finished at the end of this year. On the north side of the tower, the entire volume is supported by one W-shaped column. A 1.80 meter thick floor and equally high beams spread the weight of fourteen floors, resulting into a 13-meter deep cantilever. At street level it becomes clear too: this is where the city begins. The entire project has to be finished by the summer of 2020. Check out the project here.
