On Saturday, October 12th, a special facade artwork will be unveiled on the Podium residential complex on Schipluidenlaan in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. The artwork was created through a collaboration between the Teenage Curators of art center de Appel, artist Narges Mohammadi, and spoken word artist Zeinab El Bouni.
Podium is a light and optimistic building along the central axis of Schipluidenlaan in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. LEVS architects designed 147 mid-range rental apartments here for De Nijs and SAREF. The design is characterized by strong horizontal lines, light ceramic materials, and large windows that provide abundant daylight to all apartments. The building was completed earlier this month. The facade artwork at this location was an initiative by LEVS. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the client, it was brought to life in this unique way.
The artwork, consisting of Mohammadi's hand-drawn carpet If you know, you know... and El Bouni's poem 5713, reflects the memories of young people from their high school years and their experiences in Nieuw-West. It is a tribute to the neighborhood and its residents.
The unveiling, part of the 24 Hours Nieuw-West event, will take place at 2:00 PM at Willem Frogerstraat 137 and will be accompanied by spoken word, music, and creative workshops. The event is free and celebrates both art and the local community.
