Students develop handpress for earthblocks

Students from the Innovation Lab of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam worked on an assignment by LEVS and Oskam to design a handpress variation to the existing earthblock press that we use in Mali. Over a period of six months, students performed extensive technical calculations and tests, in order to produce several prototypes that are both stronger, lighter and simpler to make than existing handpresses on the market. Jurriaan van Stigt supervised the students, and Oskam helped in the production of prototypes. One of these proved so successful the we will continue to work together with the students to develop the device for use in Mali and elsewhere!
