Research and innovation together with TNO

A sustainable and circular economy, that is our motivation. That is why LEVS not only designs sustainable buildings, but we also work on the development of innovative construction products.

From 2008 onwards, we developed the locally produced hydraulically compressed earth blocks (HCEB) in our projects in Africa, together with machine manufacturer Oskam. But still 6% cement has to be used here. In a consortium with research organization TNO Delft and Oskam, we are working with a budget from RVO Nederland on the development of an alternative binder for cement, which will make the HCEB 100% sustainable. The stone will soon also be of interest to the European market. As a constructional material, HCEB is much more durable than concrete and an equivalent alternative to CLT timber structures.
